Discover Molokai by Car

Molokai is nicknamed "The Friendly Isle" and has three very distinct regions. Central Molokai with the island’s main town Kaunakakai is home to many beautiful sights like the Kalaupapa National Historical Park. You can admire the impressive steep sea cliffs and enjoy a day at Coconut Beach Park. Molokai’s West End offers you a picturesque coastline where you can experience spectacular sunsets and enjoy the peace and quiet of the idyllic, nearly-deserted beaches. There you will also find Papohaku Beach where you can enjoy the sun at the picture-perfect white sand beach. Little gems like Maunaloa, a small plantation village, complete your experience. Driving up to the East End of Molokai, you will find yourself in a panorama of green hillsides and rainforest. Famous hikes like the hikes to the waterfalls in Halawa Valley or visiting Kamakou Preserve to discover flora and fauna are further notable highlights.

Planning Your Visit to Molokai

For Hawaii the same visa rules apply as for any visit to the USA. Make sure you have a valid driver’s license for the USA. It is rather warm and sunny in Hawaii most of the year, so pack lightly, but don’t forget some clothing for occasional rain. Whether you visit Hawaii on a cruiseship or come here by plane to one of the airports, car rental opportunities are always nearby.

There are so many books and websites and pictures you can use to help plan and prepare for your stay. You can either prepare your visit with a detailed plan which you follow, or "go with the flow" and on each new day freshly decide what you will do. In any case, it’s good to have a good overview of the Hawaiian Islands — Maui, Kauai, Oahu and Big Island — and what they offer. A rental car gives you the flexibility on each island to explore it freely and spontaneously or to go on long trips.

5 Tips on planning a vacation on Molokai

  1. Molokai is the second-smallest of the Hawaiian Islands and is the perfect place to visit if you want to discover the heritage of the Hawaiian people with its beautiful unspoiled villages.
  2. Molokai is your perfect destination to learn more about Hawaiian culture. You can delve deeper by booking hiking tours with local guides to learn about the Hawaiian way of life.
  3. Plan beforehand what type of holiday you want to experience. Rent a condo or a beachhouse at the beachfront or get accommodations in one of the quaint little towns. Rent a rental car to easily reach any destination you want to. Arrange car rental well beforehand so that your rental car awaits you upon your arrival.
  4. If you mostly want to enjoy the beaches, the summer months are your best choice for enjoying yourself to the fullest when swimming, snorkeling or diving. During winter months, on the other hand, you will be able to go whale watching.
  5. Whatever adventure you have planned, the best idea is to also simply enjoy your stay and soak up the relaxed feeling of Molokai.

FAQ Car Rental Hawaii

Once the car is confirmed, we’ll send you a confirmation email which contains the confirmation number as well as the final price. This price is not going to change unless you purchase additional services or upgrades.

Please note: Taxes are subject to change without notice. The government can add or raise taxes — however, we cannot take responsibility for any tax changes.

You will receive a personal confirmation number after we have placed the reservation for you. This number guarantees you the specified rental car. You can always call the rental car company directly to verify this information — but note: they can’t change or cancel your reservation over the phone. Since you booked on our site, their website doesn’t show the reservation. Nonetheless, it is present in the systems which the agencies and their call center access for various logistical purposes.

Once the car is confirmed (with a confirmation number), the reservation is guaranteed. So make sure that you have your reservation number ready when you approach the rental car agency for pick-up.

At our site you find cars in all sizes and from all rental agencies all over Hawaii. So, you don’t have to bother about which agency to choose — you simply select your dates and the car of your choice. We show you the cars available and their prices. You select the option you like best.

When you book the car on our site, we will need your email address. The following happens in the background:

  1. We make a binding reservation in the system of the rental agency for the car and the time that you chose.
  2. You get a confirmation via email — and the confirmation number entitles you to pick up the car at the rental agency at the selected pick-up location.
  3. You pay — at the rental car agency — the price we confirmed in the email (only taxes are "subject to change").
  4. If you want to change or cancel your reservation, you contact us.

So, you have the broadest selection of cars, the greatest flexibility of times and pick-up locations and drop-off locations, and you profit from our good prices. And you pay only when you actually pick up the car. And if you have any questions, you can always contact us.
